April 21, 2015 – SIERRA ODC Private Limited, the South Indian IT software solutions integrator, announced today that Bharatiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran Private Limited (BRBNMPL) has selected SIERRA after stringent tender criteria to meet the Warehouse Management System and Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS) integration needs of their two warehouses at Mysore in Karnataka and at Salboni in West Bengal.
Bharatiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran Private Limited (BRBNMPL) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) established on 3rd February 1995. The company manages 2 Presses one at Mysore in Karnataka and the other at Salboni in West Bengal to augment the production of bank notes to enable the RBI to bridge the gap between the supply and demand for bank notes in India.
The present capacity for both the presses is 16 billion note pieces per year on a 2-shift basis. BRBNMPL manages its warehouse operations using the Automatic Storage and Retrieval system (ASRS) supplied and installed by M/s Godrej Efacec Automation & Robotics Ltd, Mumbai in collaboration with M/s Efacec, Portugal to store and retrieve the water mark paper boxes. This system consists of input conveyors, Bar code label generation and printing units, Profile checking system, Online weighing system, Bar code reader, Stacking cranes, Racking Aisles and output conveyors all integrated to a Warehouse Management system (WMS).
The entire operation of the WMS was managed through applications of Oracle in the back end and Open VMS in the front end. BRBNMPL sought to upgrade the present operations both software and hardware into the latest version of windows based open platform at both their plants at Mysore and Salboni. The requirement was documented and floated as a tender for “Upgradation of existing Software and Related Hardware of Automatic Storage and Retrieval Systems (ASRS)”.
The stringent process of BRBNMPL to select a successful tenderer for the contract saw the participation of 5 major industry players specialized in the field of Warehouse Management System solutions. Among these bidders were ‘SIERRA ODC Private Limited’ and BRBNMPL’s existing vendor ‘M/s Godrej Efacec Automation & Robotics Ltd’. Following a comprehensive evaluation, SIERRA was considered the most suitable long-term partner and awarded the contract.
The Warehouse Management System (WMS) application proposed by SIERRA will be developed and deployed to meet the inventory management needs of both BRBNMPL’s Warehouses; keeping with BRBNMPL’s commitment to maintain high standards in process efficiency and quality. The entire operations of input, storage, output and accounting will be automated through the Warehouse Management System along with the latest version of servers, switches, operating terminals and PLC controls. The client software will be redeveloped, using Microsoft .NET technology. The back-end database functions will be overhauled to provide improvements and additional features.
The system will adopt the latest technologies in both hardware and software. The system is expected to be implemented in about 20 weeks’ time.
